Shutter Speed
A shutter speed also known as the exposure time is the amount of time in which the camera's shutter is open for when taking a photograph. The shutter speed is measured in seconds or can sometimes be measured in fractions of seconds. The bigger the denominator the faster the speed, i.e. 1/500 is much faster than 1/30. On the other hand, the smaller the denominator the slower the speed of the shutter opening and closing. When choosing your shutter speed you should always consider if anything in your image will be moving and think about how you would like to capture that movement and if there is movement in your image, you will need to decide if you want to freeze the subject moving or let the moving subject blur. Letting the moving subject blur will give your image a sense of movement. If you wanted to freeze a moving subject you will need to have a faster shutter speed and if you wanted to blur your subject you will need to choose a slower shutter speed.
