Aims and Objectives
I aim to develop a body of work that shows 'Weather' in a collection of different ways. To complete this I will create a series of photographs that will portray weather through people's emotions; such as presenting images of sunshine which could be associated with happiness. With this example I could take a photograph of someone smiling with the sun shinning on them. Another way I could compare someones emotions in contrast with the weather could be by taking two photographs; one of a raincloud and another of someone's eye, then overlaying them to create a majestic image. I want to research photographers that focus generically on weather to influence my work and investigate the effect of different types of weather on nature, people's health; both physically and mentally and the environment.
- I intend on carrying out a shoot, to show how weather affects metal surfaces, such as drains, padlocks, pipes and other areas that are exposed to the air and have been weathered majorly. I intend to suggest to the viewer that weather doesn't just change the appearance of objects and features overnight, but over a period of time, as weather is forever changing it's state. I admire the rust-coloured evidence left on such surfaces due to the reaction of iron and oxygen. I want to photograph surface rust mainly, as in this shoot I would like to take a lot of close-ups to capture finer details more prominently; flaky and friable.
- I would like to produce a shoot, purely based on the weather rain. I aim to capture how rain falls, for instance when rain forms puddles, droplets and rivulets. I would like to photograph these examples in finer details; i.e. on umbrellas, leaves, petals and skin etc. I feel like this would be successful as it captures different aspects of the rain.
- I intend to create a shoot, showing weather conditions through another surface/object, i.e. water, icicles, transparent surfaces to create an obscure view of the environment and distort the weather in different ways for example breaking a mirror and reflecting the weather on the outside, resulting in a broken image.
- The work of Jim Reed inspired me to explore different Photoshop techniques so I'm interested in investigating the use of Photoshop in my work to give my images more intensity and vibrancy as this cannot always be achieved by the camera alone. I'm particularly interested in applying these techniques to images of clouds to create an ominous atmosphere. I would like to photograph tree canopies with the sun shining through the empty space.
